Hip and Knee
North East Joint Assessment Centre (NEJAC) is an MSK (musculoskeletal) rapid access clinic that was established in 2010, which provides a pathway for patients who suffer from moderate to severe hip and knee arthritis. NEJAC helps reduce the wait time for access to care and provides a single point of entry for primary care providers. A referral from your primary care provider (physician or nurse practitioner) is required to be seen at NEJAC.
You will be assessed by an Advanced Practice Provider (APP) who has extensive orthopedic skills and training. A comprehensive assessment will be conducted to determine the most appropriate treatment, which will be based on the severity of your condition. If surgery is the next step, an appointment with the next available or preferred orthopedic surgeon is arranged, thereby reducing wait times. If surgery is not needed, non-surgical treatment options are discussed (education, exercise prescription, injection therapy, assistive devices), and more support and resources are provided to appropriately self-manage your condition.
There are 6 partnering NEJAC sites across the North East that provide accessibility closer to home: Little Current, North Bay, Parry Sound, Sault Ste. Marie, Sudbury, and Timmins.
There is no fee to access NEJAC as this service is covered by OHIP.
